John Ryan Peterson has been awarded the DOE NNSA Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship. During the fellowship tenure, he will collaborate with scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to develop compact x-ray and gamma-ray sources.

HEDS doctoral student Griffin Glenn has been awarded a Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA SSGF). This fellowship provides financial support and professional development opportunities to students pursuing a Ph.D. in fields of study that solve complex problems critical to stewardship science.

Ben Ofori-Okai learned the difference between an MD and a PhD at a younger age than most when someone introduced his father, a chemist, as “Dr. Ofori-Okai.” “I was only 4 years old, but I remember thinking, ‘My dad’s not a doctor. He doesn’t treat people,’” Ofori-Okai says. “That’s when I learned that there was a different kind of doctor: a scientist.”

HEDS doctoral student Franziska Treffert has been awarded a two year doctoral scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). This award will be used to support her PhD research on neutron generation using cryogenic low-Z jets, advised by Dr. Siegfried H. Glenzer and Prof. Dr. Markus Roth (TU Darmstadt, Germany).
